LO4: Analysed Social Grade and Age

 Social-economic grade:

Take a break is a magazine targeted towards women

I think C2 or D are going to read the Take a Break magazine because they will have the most time to read it, the magazine is cheap for them to buy and they are more likely to read this. It doesn't look high class, it isn't glossy, they have a cash prize.Ideal self or ideal partner- The woman on the magazine isn't a celebrity but she is pretty and she is one of the people that would read the magazine.

These companies might advertise in this:

Aldi, B&M, Lidl, Sainsburys, primark, new look, WHSmith, Claires, Argos

Hollyoaks:

16-30 age group target audience
I think this because it looks very dramatic and the characters are around 20 year olds, sex, romance, drugs and alcohol

Send press packs to:
Superdrugs, Primark, Pretty Little Thing, boohoo, Boots, perfume and jewellery companies
Females or women watch Hollyoaks more or homosexual men

Press packs- Audience profile and target audience, sent to companies so they can advertise in it

Exam Questions figure 1:

Identify three interpretations that can be made about the relationship between social grade and streaming services

1. In social grade A they use Amazon more

2. Netflix has the largest subscriptions by social grade C

3. Now TV have the same percentage for social grade A and E

Explain one of the interpretations in Q1:

A and E have the same social grade for Now TV at 5%. This might be because they are higher classes like social grade A and B. They won't have much time to watch TV shows and it is the same for Netflix.

Exam questions figure 2:

Identify two differences between the consumption of subscription streaming services for household size: 3 and household side: 4

1. Household size 4 comsume more 170 daily total viewing time of Now TV than about 130 for household

2. Least streamed platform in household 3 is Amazon

Explain one reason why there is a greater consumption of Now TV in households with children 0-3 years  than the consumption of Amazon or Netflix

Now TV has a greater consumption because they have more child friendly content compared to Amazon and Netflix

Exam questions Figure 3:

Identify three trends in the value of any of the different forms of entertainment between 2013-2017

1. Between 2013-2017, games has the most anual value of all forms of entertainment (2372.5 in 2013 and 3,352.6 in 2017), video was close to games in 2013 but has become more distant as of  2017

2. The total anual value has increased dramatically from 5,631.5 in 2013 to 7,242.7 in 2017

3.  Music has the overall least anual value of entertainment compared to games and video with only 1,047.3 in 2013 and 1,201.5 in 2017

Explain two reasons why there was an increase in the value of one of the forms of entertainment between 2019 an 2017. Use examples to support your answer.

 Games

The development of new technologies means we have more consoles and platforms to play games. Therefore, more people are playing games on their consoles and more developers are creating games and distributing them onto these consoles. For example, Skyrim is available to play on Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo switch which means they are covering a large target audience and they will make more money as not everyone has just an xbox. As a result, the value of games has increased dramatically.

Games have risen in popularity recently, more people are playing games and events like E3 are giving more awareness and advertise new games. For example, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild was promoted at E3 in 2016 and it won the game of the year award when it released.

 Exam questions different paper:

Using figure 1 and figure 2

1a: Identify two interpretations that can be made about the audiences of BBC1 and BBC2 in July 2018

1. BBC1 has more sports (football specifically) on than BBC2 which only has one show of Wimbledon 2018

2. BBC2 has a smaller viewer count (their top show being Wimbeldon 2018 with 3,298.5) than BBC1 with their top viwer count being World Cup 2018: Sweden vs England at 17.399.5

1b: Identify two interpretations about the target audiences of ITV1 and ITV2 in July 2018

1. ITV2 focuses more on reality TV (Love Island) for a younger target audience and ITV1 focuses more on drama (coronation Street) that is aimed more towards older women and the world cup 2018 Croacia vs England which reaches a variety of ages.

2. ITV1 is more popular than ITV 2 overall

Suggest three reasons that might explain any of the interpretations you made in part 1a

1. BBC1 has a large target audience of football fans compared to BBC2 which has a more older target audience. BBC2 has shows like gardeners world which older people would like and a documentary series called Inside the factory. Older people might not be too bothered about football or sports.

2. Football is more popular than tennis so the football 2018 on BBC1 has more views than the Wimbledon 2018

3. BBC1 is the first BBC channl therefore it has the best BBC shows and it attracts different audiences as the BBC is a public service broadcaster. However, BBC2 might have shows that are not as popular therefore it has less views overall compared to BBC1.

Use figure 3 and your knowledge to answer the following questions

2a: Explain two possible reasons that the Metro has had the smallest change in its year-on-year circulation figures

Use your wider understanding about print products and examples to support your answers.

1. Maybe the metro advertises more than the Sun and the Daily Mail newspapers

2.The metro might be seen in shops more than the other newspapers

3.

Explain one reason why the sun has higher circulation than the daily mail

The sun might target towards a younger target audience and it focuses more on celebrities and entertainment, the Sun is less serious than the Daily Mail.

Media institutions need to identify future market possibilities so that they are successful.

Explain two ways that the Sun and/or the Daily Mail could increase their circulation and readership. Use your wider understanding about media products and examples to support your answers.

1.  The Sun and the Daily mail can advertise their newspapers online more and advertise their websites. They could do this more through social media or focus more on having their own tiktok or social media preeent, they could also advertise themselves using YouTube advertisements. As a result, more people will read their newspapers because they know and trust the brands.

2. The Sun and the Daily mail workers could go to houses and ask if they would like to be included in a paper round and also gie them a leaflet on how to be included if they said no in case they change their mind.
